Who runs this site

AveragExcellent is a side project built and maintained by a volunteer, to help students calculate and plan their average. It is not a business: there is nothing for sale, no subscriptions and no user accounts. If ads are shown on the Hebrew pages, they are there to help cover the cost of running the site; English pages show no ads.

What data is saved, and where

All the data you enter in the Tool - course names, grades, credit points, assignment to a semester/year, goals and simulations - is saved in a local database in your browser called IndexedDB. This is a standard storage mechanism built into every modern browser, intended for web applications (Web Apps and PWAs) to save information locally on the user's device.

The practical meaning: we, the operators of the Site, do not see, collect or store the grades or courses you enter. There is no central server for them, there is no user account, and there is no way for us to restore or access them remotely. The data exists only on the specific device and browser in which you used the Tool.

It follows that if you clear the browser's browsing data, delete the site's history, or move to another device/browser, the data will not be available automatically in the new place. The Tool offers a data export and import option in CSV format for exactly this purpose - it is recommended to export a backup from time to time if the data is important to you in the long term. Full details can be found in the full user guide (in Hebrew).

Google Analytics

The Site uses the Google Analytics service to understand how visitors use the Site in a general and aggregated manner - for example which pages are viewed, for how long, and from what type of device. This service operates by means of cookies and anonymous identifiers, and is unrelated to the content of the grades or courses you enter in the Tool, which, as stated, does not reach the server at all.

The information collected by Google Analytics is handled in accordance with Google's privacy policy. You can read Google's full policy and manage your advertising preferences at policies.google.com/privacy.

Google AdSense and advertising

The Site may display advertisements served through the Google AdSense service. Google and third parties that cooperate with it may use cookies to display personalized ads based on your previous visits to this site and to other sites on the web.

You can opt out of the use of personalized advertising cookies through Google's ad settings. In addition, you can manage and opt out of advertising cookies of various providers through aboutads.info (for users in the United States) or youronlinechoices.com (for users in Europe).

It is important to clarify: the advertisements displayed on the Site are served and managed entirely by Google, and we have no access to the degree grades or courses you entered in the Tool - as stated, this information does not leave your browser.

Cookies - summary

The Site uses cookies in two contexts only: (1) Google Analytics, for anonymous and aggregated usage statistics; (2) Google AdSense, for displaying advertisements and sometimes personalizing them. The Tool itself (calculating the average, adding courses, simulation) does not use cookies at all - it relies on local storage in the browser (IndexedDB) as described above, which is not a cookie in the traditional sense and is not shared with a third party.

You can block or delete cookies at any time through the browser settings. Note that some features related to usage analysis may not work properly if cookies are blocked entirely, but the central Tool (the average calculator) will continue to work fully even without cookies, since it does not depend on them.

Analytics on English pages

This section appears only in this English translation and is not part of the Hebrew original. On the English pages of the Site:

  • Google Analytics loads only after you click "Allow analytics" in the banner.
  • If you click "No thanks", Google Analytics never loads.
  • Your choice is stored in your browser (localStorage key ax_consent) and you can change it at any time from the "Analytics settings" link in the page footer.
  • The English pages show no ads.
  • Your grades and course data stay on your device and are never sent to a server.

Sharing information with third parties

We do not sell, rent or directly share any personal information or grade data with a third party, for the simple reason that this information does not reach us at all. The only information shared with a third party is anonymous and aggregated usage data through Google Analytics, and advertising data through Google AdSense - both of these services are subject to the privacy policy and terms of use of Google itself.

The contact form

If you write to us through the contact page, only the topic, your message and, if you choose to leave it, your email are stored (the email is optional). The form is run by Netlify, which hosts the site, and messages are used only to read and answer them. You can ask, through the same form, for a message you sent to be deleted.

Fonts and external resources

The site's fonts are served from the site itself, not from a Google service, so loading a page does not send your IP address to a font provider.

User rights

Since your personal data (the grades, courses and credit points) is not saved on any server on our behalf, you control it fully and exclusively:

  • Access and deletion: All the data is accessible to you directly through the Tool's interface at any moment. Deleting a course or resetting the data in the Tool deletes it permanently from your device; we have no copy to restore or delete on your behalf, because, as stated, we do not have one.
  • Data portability: The CSV export option allows you to take your data with you at any time, for a personal backup or for transfer to another tool.
  • Withdrawing consent to cookies and advertising: You can manage and opt out of analytics and advertising cookies at any time through the browser settings and the management links mentioned above.
  • Contacting us about privacy: For any question, request or problem related to privacy, you can contact us through the contact form linked in the next section.

Changes to this policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time, for example following a change in third-party services (such as Google Analytics or Google AdSense) or the addition of new features to the Tool. The date of the last update appears at the top of the page. Continued use of the Site after the policy is updated constitutes agreement to the updated terms.

Contact

For any question, clarification or request regarding this privacy policy or the way the Tool operates, you can contact us through the contact form.
